This is an excellent new series.

Set in a world different from our the people are Arachnae, part spider. We come into the action straight away, Lourdes' parent have just been killed by a clan that was their long time allies. Her clan are rich but very vulnerable and so she reaches out to a friend of her mothers.

The mother's friend pledges her clan's help in return for clothing and Lourdes marrying her son Rhys.

Rhys belongs to a clan of cannibals. Turns out they only eat the flesh of the people they kill as a sign of respect towards the dead.

Lourdes' sister runs off with a former guard Lourdes' chief suspect in her fathers death. She promises to finalise the marriage with Rhys if he finds her sister.

They go off after the sister and track her through the South end of the land.

I found Lourdes and Rhys compelling and the world building good, not too overwhelming but with enough detail to understand what is happening.

I will definitely read the next book.
