bookshelves: will-never-finish

I had completely forgotten I had started this book once upon a time. I received it as a gift, and I'm very grateful for the sentiment behind that. However, even as a gift, I couldn't finish it. Simplistic and at times arrogantly naive, it reads like college-senior armchair-philosophizing: earnest, but lacking considerable breadth and depth of understanding. That said, it's quite puzzling that a lot of people have very strong opinions, positive and negative, for this book: I forgot it existed. But those with effusive praise or vitriol are equally wrong: this book is the beginning of thinking about something, not the end. This is a good book for high school students and other pupating thinkers. If you loved it, that's likely what you are; if not, why dissect it like it's serious literature?
