it was amazing
bookshelves: art, text-using, picture-book, beach, emotions, ell

This picture book is an awesome book to use to talk about the emotions of the character, picture analyzing and predicting. I would bring the students on the emotional journey of the girl in the book and have them predict what they think will happen next by analyzing the picture. This could also be used in a mini lesson on the power of picture books. The students could begin to create their own picture books with this book as a guide.

ELL Connection: The illustrations in this book are absolutely beautiful. While this would be a great book for all students, I would definitely use it to hear the expressions of my ELL students. Books like these allow you to experience the language capability of the students and give you a little glimpse into their personalities through the connections they make throughout the book and how they narrate the pictures.

Trang I think that it's great that you're thinking about books in a more broad sense when finding ways to use it with ELL students. It definitely encourages me to see more books as being applicable to ELLs.
