I was tempted to give this three stars for the frustrating, abrupt ending and all of the questions I had which were left unanswered, but I guess in the end, that's life. Still, I was left feeling like I wanted to know more about Adrian and why he had such a hold on those he encountered. I found myself caring less about Tony than I did about a character used as a plot device.

Barnes' writing is beautiful and that elevated "The Sense of an Ending" to four stars.
