I thought that doing a Magneto origin story which doubled as an account of the Holocaust might be a gross misjudgment on a par with Straczynski's legendarily bad World Trade Centre issue of Spider-Man. But this is surprisingly effective, and affecting. The young Magneto's powers are only starting to manifest, so there's no wish-fulfillment kicking of Nazi arse, just the occasional fluke which enables him to cheat death...and then each time, even with that amazing escape, he can only fall into the next terrible step of the Final Solution, a trap even a superman cannot escape.
