A guide to raising a family from a Conservative (Church of Christ) perspective.
The book has some valuable insights and ideas about family dynamics, especially about promoting a positive family atmosphere and resolving conflict. It also touches on topics like money management, courtship, selecting a mate, and raising children. Sadly, the book is very out of date; this most recent edition was published in 1995, so when Isom talks about things like technology and media, or the cost of buying a house, the information is no longer relevant. Another problem I found was that in writing this book, Isom had very little respect for his readers--he was constantly pointing out the obvious and talking down to us. Furthermore, he is not a good writer, lacking skill in style, grammar, personality, and anything else that might make a book enjoyable.
