it was amazing
bookshelves: better-than-expected, books-with-many-levels
Read from April 17 to 19, 2012

This book could be deceiving. There is a great plot and great characters. When I first finished I didn't feel the plot really chrystallized into anything meaningful. Then, after thinking about it, I realized that this was an example and a story that, although, about the old west, was very contemporary in its handling of relationships, personalities, fate vs. choice, environmental influences on outcomes and so many other things. Not a super deep or literative novel. But one that gets a 5 for its originality, interesting detail, and out of the box character development. Pulp fiction does come to mind, but rarely and not as violent. In fact, you are shown the emotional and vulnerable side of these two brothers who are trying to survive. Worth a read - I want to read it again.
