Cute as a bug's ear.

Marin has a distinctive brand of innocent/sly sexiness. I liked the way Jamie's parts of the book shared his romantic disappointments with the reader. He engendered the reader's sympathy without wallowing or pouting.

For a story this short, the plot details shouldn't overwhelm the romance, and here they don't. The selkies' world is illustrated enough to set up the conflict, which is ultimately resolved, and that's all that's needed for this fun and touching romp.

The characters are what set Daisy Harris's books apart from the common short-novel formula of "one hottie stud, one shy sweetie, does-he-LIKE-me-like-me, oh yes, the end." They have such personality, and I always want to know what they're going to say next.

Just what I needed.
