If you are new to Tom Robbins, please do not start with this book.
I’ve read all of Tom Robbins novels at the time of this review, so perhaps 2/5 is a harsh rating, but that’s what it’s getting. By Robbins and other book standards this is a below average, and at best an OK book. There are funny parts, beautiful sentences and a bit of juicy Robbins’ philosophy, but not enough to make this a good book.
Probably my biggest complaint: Too many characters, which is not a con itself; but when there are a few characters thrown in for 3 pages and never heard from again, it takes away from whatever might be “main story.” Who is the main character in this book? Who was I supposed to be rooting for?
I couldn't help but think that Robbins got bored with writing this book and just wrapped it up as best as he could.
Still love Tom though, he’s great.
