bookshelves: horror, 5-stars, short-story
Read in April, 2012

A beautifully told, horrifying short story about a town's yearly lottery. Jackson's setup is wonderful--the happy, pleasant atmosphere of the beginning of the story adds much to the power of the story's ending. And a second read through let me pick out the significance of things that I hadn't noticed the first time around.

If you like horror, or if you like dark, gritty stories that have the potential to keep you up at night, I highly recommend this one.
