I have to agree with the people who thought this book was long on fluff, short on real content.

While I found the thesis that violence is declining interesting, the author really had nothing significant to contribute to the question of why. Pinker hauls out far too many of those silly psychology experiments done on students that may or may not prove what the designers tried to make them prove. Mostly his explanations were airy hypotheses. And though there are the obligatory images of the brain, if you hope to learn something about brain function from this book, you're totally out of luck. There's about as much Science in this book as there is in something you'd see on the Discovery channel. At times I could almost hear the woo-woo music.
