Neither of the characters (both called Katherine/Kate) come to life for me like the heroines of Weir's previous novels. Katherine Grey's sister Jane felt so real to me in Weir's earlier novel Innocent Traitor that I'm surprised to feel nothing for Katherine here--but maybe that's the reality of history. Poor Jane was intelligent if not wise, and stubborn with the black/white worldview teenagers have, while Katherine seems silly and naive. I suppose it's no surprise I feel more affinity for the nerd than the shallow boy-crazy cheerleader, who keeps doing herself in by ignoring all the realities and people around her in her pursuit of some hot guy.
