I could not put this book down. It is a beautiful love story based on the author's grandparent's story. The book follows the lives of two Italian immigrants. It is first set in the Italian alps, where they are from and first fall in love. They both immigrate to America, although they do not end up together until much later, when they have established their lives there. Most of the book is about their struggles to make something of themselves in America. The last third of the book is their story as a married couple. The story is heartwarming, but heart wrenching at the same time. It's a realistic story, in which we are exposed to the pain and loss that people experience throughout their lives. But, the message I saw in the story was that; no matter now difficult life may be at times, finding love makes it all worthwhile.
