A quick read, but not even close to Umberto Eco's The Name of the Rose or Hillary Mantel's Wolf Hall. But it takes place at the time of the dissolution of the English monastaries and Thomas Cromwell is a minor character. There's been a death (and then more) at a monastery on the southern coast, and Matthew Shardlake, a hunchback and lawyer, is sent to solve the murder--and to examine whether or not the monastic system has served England well. Fun to read but unsubstantial.
