Wow! I got this book reccomended to me on my kindle and I truly loved it! It begins in the 1840's on a plantation in Virginia. It is the story of Mattie, a wet nurse and her charge lisbeth. Mattie is taken from her newborn son to become the wet nurse to the new baby in the house. She becomes the child's sole source of companionship. She grows up with one foot in the slave world and one foot in the slave owner world.

Lisbeth grows up and is about to marry into the most influential family in Virginia, but then she sees something that changes her whole world....

I can't go into too much more detail without giving the whole book away. It was a very interesting look into slavery and the relationships between the slaves and slave owners. It gave great insight into how slaves must have felt about things.
