I won this book on a goodreads giveaway, and I have received no compensation for the following review.

The first few pages brought me in, but then the book wasn't what I hoped it would be. I knew it was about a series of events over a tumultuous year in Chicago history but I didn't know it wasn't going to have a story to go with it. Instead, it reads like a history book. If you are interested in Chicago, then this may be for you, otherwise, don't read it. There are so many citations you feel as if you spend your entire time flipping back to the reference pages. I bet this is even more frustrating on an eReader.

Wanda It is clearly a history, so why criticize it for being a history???

Steve If you will notice, the criticism is mainly based on the layout of the book and not so much with the content. When almost every page has a subscript on it that requires skipping to the back to see extra information which in most cases doesn't contribute to the overall story. I look forward to reading your review of it, Wanda, maybe there is something I missed.
