In luscious, elegant, poetic prose, Barry gives readers a glimpse into the mind of an 89-year-old Irish immigrant as she reflects on her life, its moments of happiness and its tragedies. Although the story is tinged with sadness, the beauty of the writing is utterly inspiring. The narrator of the audiobook is excellent at evoking the mood, but her rendering of Irish and American accents is uneven, her native Englishness often slipping through.
