I'm not sure what I expected. I suppose I thought it would be some validation or confirmation of my claustrophobic misanthropy and my ideal of living alone together in a vibrant community.

What I got was a book with a chapter on how awesome it is to be a well to do single yuppie in your 20's and 30's. And then the entire rest of the book is a horror story of how I'm going to suffer and die alone and unloved. This book is more a book about the indignity of aging and infirmity in America than it is about the undeniable appeal of independence and living alone.
