This autobiographical picturebook is intended for ages 5-8 years(P). In it the author recounts the story of the 1960 sit-in at the Woolworth's lunch counter.
I gave this book 4 stars. The author uses a series of metaphors to communicate the emotions at the lunch counter that afternoon. Then she carefully places actual quotes from Dr. King's speeches within the text to help explain the protesters motivation to keep peaceful. This book is appropriate for the targeted age group. There are a lot of metaphors, but they are easy to interpret.
This would be a good read aloud book to have on hand when studying the civil rights movement.
This book is available in print.
