it was amazing

This was super long, and I was kind of hoping it wouldn't be that good so I could stop after 50 pages. Alas, it was really well written and a really good, visceral sense of the Vietnam War, both at the time and it's aftermath for those who served. Published in 2002, so well before we were embroiled in two more very long overseas wars, but resonant of those as well - made me wonder what a similar book would be like for another set of wars with no seeming purpose but with a wholly professional/volunteer military as opposed to one with the draft.
