I read this children's book because the series is the basis of a new animated film. I gave it a solid review, but I think kids would probably love it. The series features modern mythical characters (Santa Claus, the Easter bunny, the man in the moon,I guess the tooth fairy, etc) in conflict with the nightmare king, who wants to take all the hopes and dreams of the world. The story takes place before the characters had become the myths and is immensely creative, charming, and non-cliche. It also ignores all of the religious connections for the characters. The only draw back is that because of the number of characters and the shortness of book, they are not as fleshed out as they could be. However, this causes the story to move at a brisk pace which kids will love.
