No, it isn't Harry Potter. The Casual Vacancy is a mature, sad, nuanced look at the lives of a cross-section of the residents of a small British town. The tensions of race, gender, class and generations is felt throughout. I see the world of the Fields as clearly as that of Hogwarts. Rowling can write, she can make astute observations and she can feel.
