After first reading the book in my early teens some twenty years ago, I now re-read it to my sons (8 and 5 year-olds) as a bed-time adventure story.

While some of the facts (like the piece about antarctica) in the book are clearly outdated and false, I never stop admiring the depth of knowledge Verne had in the time of writing. The story suffers from some of the inconsistent pacing typical to the works of its time (As a child, when reading classics such as this, I remember skipping parts here and there...) but for most parts the story is eventful and interesting. Enough to keep the youngsters listening and asking for more.

For me, at this reading, it was Nemo's personality that made the biggest impression and left me wondering about his back story...

In all, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is still a classic worth reading. Not a small feat considering how long it's been since the book was released!
