Pulitzer-Prize winning author Jon Meacham compares the American Presidency to Mount Olympus and our Presidents as Gods. After reading this mesmerizing tale of Americana between 1945 and 2012, it isn't hard to understand where Meacham came up with that idea. Presidents use former occupants of the office for many different reasons, but all in all it is just like the title says...it's a fraternity...and one that I would love to belong to myself. The stories of Eisenhower overseeing such men as JFK and LBJ and then the eventual overtaking of the "club" by the likes of Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford make for a brilliant slice of what is usually known as behind-the-scenes off-the-record types of incidents. Overall, what a great idea for a book this was...and a great read as well.
