it was amazing
Read from June 16 to 22, 2012

I am not much on romance stories, but this one grabbed me from the first word and didn't let up. Two daughters are going through their mother's things from her house as her death is imminent a year after their dad passed away. Finding a diary of their mother's, they are introduced to her in a way they never knew her before. I absolutely loved this story, not just the well written way it was told, but the ideals it upheld, the surprising twist at the end, and the style in which it was written. It almost felt like a movie, because the chapter would begin with an entry from the diary, then melded into the past and the mother's history. Toward the end of the chapter we were brought back to the present and the daughter's reactions to what they were learning about their parents. I enjoyed Eileen Goudge's stories for young adults when I was a child, and I am glad to discover she is still writing stories that I can enjoy!
