I wanted to love it. I tried so hard to love it. You can't compare this at all to Harry Potter. But I feel like Rowling could have written a book completely different from Harry Potter and still kept the parts we all loved about her writing style from her children's books. This was like a completely different person writing. If she hadn't written the (arguably) most beloved book series of all time, I don't think this would have been published. I feel like this novel is a classic case of no one wanting to tell a superstar, "No." It's like Michael Jordan owning the worst basketball team in the NBA. It could have been so much better, you have this incredible talent at the helm, and then it somehow all falls apart. What. A. Bummer.
