I heard an interview with Sigler in which he talked about how important it was to ground his plot in science—however crazy and supernatural it might seem—and I really appreciated that. More than that, I stayed up til after midnight and read on through the next day because I absolutely needed to finish it. It definitely had some alarmingly horrifying bits, perhaps my as much as something like Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but I really appreciated the San Francisco setting and the original take on the police procedural.
