I enjoyed the previous book, but in this one I think the whimsicality/surrealism actually started to grate on me: characters reacting to danger in silly ways that make it seem trivial, plus deciding that things are dangerous that, frankly, ARE silly (pursued by actor pirates?) - and then there's the children's dialogue. It's cute sometimes, and clever occasionally, but often just doesn't ring true to me, even for kids raised by wolves. Basically, picture the Series of Unfortunate Events books if all three kids were Sunny.

The books are fun in their way, I think. I've just come to the conclusion that it's not a way I feel like reading at the moment.
