it was ok
bookshelves: plants-flowers, science

I thought this book was cute but not something to write home about. It has simple text, and simple illustrations. This book will teach children the process of growing a carrot. I did like that the boy kept trying and working at growing his carrot even though his family was telling him that it would not grow. After continuing to try he gets his carrot at the end. This book is also a great way to start a discussion about vegetables that grow underground, such as carrots.

Extension Activity: After reading this book, I will lead the children in a chart called, "To grow a carrot I would..." I would allow each child the opprotunity to tell how they would grow a carrot. I would write each child's response onto the chart and post the chart in the classroom.

Jami You do realize it's actually a book about believing in yourself despite nay sayers and the value of patience and hard work, right? It's not really about carrots or how they grow.
