Skellig - David Almond, Fantasy Fiction

A boy called Michael, and his parents move into a new house. His baby sister has just been born, but too early so she is very ill. Michael's mother is very distraught about her daughter and has to keep going back and forth to the hospital, so Michael and his dad basically have to keep the house in good condition and settle in.

Michael goes exploring around the house one day, and in the garage in the corner sits a very unusual and scary creature; Skellig. He is not ordinary as he has wings and eats spiders and bluebottles, and maybe he is just in Michael's mind. Michael soon starts to talk to this odd creature, starting a relationship. He then gets to find out the truth about Skellig, and tries to help him as much as he can.

As Michael begins to settle down in his new house he also meets his neighbor, a girl called Mina, and they start to spend lots of time together. She is an unusual person, someone who is a genius when it comes to birds. After a while, Michael soon begins to think about whether she would understand about Skellig.

Michael has much to learn and a lot of exploring to do.

This book is very sweet, interesting, and suspicious at the same time. It touches the heart and makes you want to continue reading. I would recommend this book to people who like both adventure and sadness, and for boys and girls.
