I have heard about the Thursday Next series for years now. The book was a zany delight, depicting an alternative version of 1985 where literature and the arts ARE popular culture. Thursday is a fantastic heroine, very cool with a good aim. Some of the character names made it slightly confusing at times, but didn't detract from the pure fun of the story. I'll seek out more books in the series.
