In order not to step on anyone's toes or hurt anyone's feelings I won't rate Bared to You. DNF when I hit the 50 % mark. As far as I can judge, Bared to You is a sensitive topic because it's already related to Fifty. Frankly, it's not my intention to start a turmoil by writing a negative review. When I'm reviewing a book I want to be able to write about my feelings. I want to be honest, and a review should always reflect my emotions why I didn't like a book. Naturally it's the same the other way round. With that said, I'm trying to write my reviews in an open and respectable manner. I know this is not always possible--sometimes we get out of line. We all know that tastes and opinions tend to differ. And that's all right--that's the beauty of books.
Bared to You did not work at all for me for numerous reasons. My rating would have been very low and I'll be honest when I'm gonna say that my review would have been the opposite of flattering. Even though I'm happy for those readers who loved the book, I demand that you respect my point of view as well when I say this was a bad book for me. Needless to say that I don't get the hype. Funny thing is while reading Bared to You I never got the Fifty vibes. Bared to You is a different book but I didn't like it all the same. Personally, I think the book benefits in a major way of the fact that many readers have rec'd it to Fifty devotees. Again, it's all right and it's nothing that will compromise my reading life in a severe way. Anyone who is seriously interested to know why the story didn't work for me may send me a message, and I will outline my issues.
Kristen Ashley has written something very beautiful. I borrowed it from her book Golden Trail:
"See, that's the beauty of books. We get to take what we want out of them and it can be different for everyone. You get a good one, you may even find what you need."
Unfortunately it was not a good one and I couldn't find what I needed. Anyway, I'm off to the next one.

Joy wrote: "glad you are reading this--let me know how it is"Ok, Joy, I even bought the damn thing! I got an ARC for free but I couldn't download it on my Kindle. And it is so annoying to read it on my desktop. That's why I bought it on amazon. I only paid 2,49 Euro--a bargain!
I like your honest review, Baba, but how come you didn't explain what you disliked as you normally would have? You're free to write whatever the hell you want, and anyone who feels "hurt" can go hang themselves.
Dija wrote: "I like your honest review, Baba, but how come you didn't explain what you disliked as you normally would have? As far as I can remember there were quite some heated "discussions" about Fifty. I just do not need that.
Silver Iris wrote: "Baba I want to read this now both because of your reaction and because of all the five star ratings. I read the Fifty trilogy and gave it 3 stars. It was average enough not great and not the worst ..."Well, I wish you good luck then, Iris. :-)
Baba, I am sorry you had a difficult time with this book. I admit, I loved it. BUT, I completely get that it is NOT everyone's taste. You have every right to feel as you do about a book you put time and effort into reading, and I kind of wish you hadn't felt the need to censor yourself. You aren't going to change my mind or hurt my feelings if you say why this book wasn't for you. Reviews are opinions. You have yours, and I have mine. And, as you said, using one of my favorite KA quotes, we all take away different things from the same book. Hopefully, it's what we need, but sometimes, unfortunately, it isn't:)I wish you much better luck with the next book you read:)
Hugs.....
Eliz
I love that people have different points of views. My friends are basically 2 different view points. Not sure how that happened. If I'm scanning reviews and both sets of friends seem to like a book I'll get it without even reading the synopsis..haha I know where you are coming from because I was trying to read something that someone was excited about me reading and when I bailed on it I felt bad. But we read for enjoyment and you shouldn't feel bad for not following the masses. Enjoy your future endeavors. :o)
I respect your decision to handle your reviews in any manner you see fit. However, please know that there isn't one review that offends me. I rather enjoy reading the opinions of others. Sometimes I learn something new or someone else's review puts a whole different light on how I originally viewed that same point. Cheers to you for staying true to yourself, Baba!
Aw, shame you didn't like it Baba. I have a book which I really hate when everyone else seems to like it too. I made a shelf for it specially!!
Baba, I think honesty is always the best way to go and that's exactly what you did. I love your review and your ability to say how you feel. I can't always do that in many things, not just my opinion about a book or a movie. Way to go!!!So what's next on your list to read?
I still feel upset that you had to face this issue as a reviewer, Baba. Sometimes I really wish GR came with a "disable comments" option for each review.

Mine is Babs (at least my friends here in Switzerland are calling me Babs). And don't apologize. It's ok. I think I'm getting lucky right now because I love the story I'm reading. So, all's well that ends well! :-) ((Hugs)), babe
Tom wrote: "I love that people have different points of views. My friends are basically 2 different view points. Not sure how that happened. If I'm scanning reviews and both sets of friends seem to like a boo..."Thanks, Tom! Yeah, tastes and opinions differ. It's interesting, after all.
Silver Iris wrote: "Lol well it is on TBR. We shall see if I get to it. I have to admit I like to read books that are all hyped up even if it isn't to my taste."Well, good luck and I hope you're going to enjoy it, Iris!
AnneOK wrote: "I respect your decision to handle your reviews in any manner you see fit. However, please know that there isn't one review that offends me. I'm reading lots and lots of reviews and most of the time I already know that I won't read the book or sometimes it's even a book I disliked. That said, I can read and "like" a reader's review nevertheless.
Becs wrote: "Aw, shame you didn't like it Baba. I have a book which I really hate when everyone else seems to like it too. I made a shelf for it specially!!"Hey, I have such a shelf. Thanks for reminding me, Becs.

The beginning was great--so much fun! Love it! Imagine, the heroine is a brainy geek! I have a feeling that I'm gonna love her. She's a wonderful. And the hero...YUM!
Dija wrote: "I still feel upset that you had to face this issue as a reviewer, Baba. Sometimes I really wish GR came with a "disable comments" option for each review."Oh, never mind, Dija. It was not too bad. Sometimes it's just a bit tedious.
Hey there Babs;-) You're very welcome for the comment, and feel free to call me Eliz if you like! I'm uber lazy, so I just shorten my name to that when I sign sometimes. Our Wendy and some others here just refer to me as E, which friends in RL oftentimes call me. Your choice!Glad your current book is working out for you! It sounded really good, so I added it to my wishlist;)
Hugs....
Eliz OR E;)
Baba, keep on doing what you do. Your thoughts are just as important as someone else's who loved the book. I've run into the same issues where I've had to write a negative review about books that other friends thought I'd love and I felt terrible about doing so. But if we're not being honest when we don't like something, people aren't going to appreciate when we do get excited about a book. Never trust a person who loves every single thing they read! This book is on my short list and I plan on tackling it over the next couple of days, so I'll be curious to see if I fall on the like or dislike side.
I applaud your opinion! It is so tough to go against the grain. Especially when a majority or in some cases all of your GR friends enjoy something you don't. It's happened to me with certain books, where I've asked myself "what do they see in this?". When I'm fishing for new books I usually read more of the 1 star reviews than 5 star. I know they're honest, where as some 5 stars are not.
It's always a bummer when you don't like any book. It's frustrating when you spend your precious time on something and it doesn't work for you. I'm glad you didn't pay for this one. I think you did the right thing in not rating it. I'm actually going to go back and unrate the book I didn't finish because I didn't like the subject matter.
You are such a classy lady, Baba. I have never felt you were bashing other readers who loved a book that you didn't and I dislike that you felt you were bashed for not liking one. Boo! I am intrigued about what didn't work for you in this book and would never turn my fan-girl blaster on you :)
Someday, we readers are going to stop bashing other readers about their tastes. I believe in us!!!!
*cues up the John Lennon tunes*
My GR friend, MA says: "It's not an "author thing". It's not a "reviewer thing." It's a "book thing." If you're tearing down authors or tearing down reviewers, you're not doing that because you love books."
I say, let's write honest reviews that describe what we like and dislike about books. I believe we can do that while being respectful of everyone sitting in front of keyboards out there.
<3 you Baba.
Glad you are onto a good read that you're enjoying.
Loved your comments Babs and as you know that is one of my fav quotes from Kristen Ashley. *Hugs* sweet friend!

Katie wrote: "I applaud your opinion! It is so tough to go against the grain. Especially when a majority or in some cases all of your GR friends enjoy something you don't. Thanks for your comment, Katie!

Right back at you, my lovely! You have to have some class and respect to "like" my review since we do not share the same opinion when it comes to Bared to You. Thank you.
Sorry, but I never felt that readers were bashing me for not liking a book. What I meant is that some comments are just tedious and needless (like..."It's sad that you didn't get it").
My GR friend, MA says: "It's not an "author thing". It's not a "reviewer thing." It's a "book thing." If you're tearing down authors or tearing down reviewers, you're not doing that because you love books."
I couldn't agree more, SR! Say "hi" to your friend from me.
I heart you, my dear! Take care and have a wonderful weekend with your hubby! <3

Thanks, KatLynne! Wow, I can see that you read the comments--the "Babs" comment too. :-)
Enjoy your weekend!
((Hugs)) right back at you my dear!
Babs
Baba, I think you are always respectful and sweet. If anyone gets offended by you, I have to think it's more likely their problem, not yours. As far as the book, I loved it, but like I said before, I had a feeling that you wouldn't. These types of heroes just don't seem to be your bag. And hey, as long as you're respectful about it (which you ARE!) then you should be able to say whatever you like. After all this is YOUR review, right?
I really do like your review and would love to hear your thoughts, but understand if it isn't worth the backlash of tedious and needless comments. I know the writing is better in this book than in the Fifty books, so I'm curious if there were similarities between the two books that you disliked or if the characters were a big turn off for you or maybe what didn't work for you was different for each book... (LOL)
See, I am so curious! But for you Baba, I will restrain my inner journalist and try not to press you into an interview.
Smooches!

Thanks for your nice comment, Tori! And you are right, I didn't like the hero but I didn't like the heroine either. My list of issues is pretty long... :-)

I will send you a message, just to satisfy your curiosity my dear!
Smooches right back at you.
I have this but haven't got around to reading it yet and I haven't read the Fifty books either so am a little in the dark but know that there was a lot of differences of opinions. It is a shame that you don't feel as if you can express your dislikes without worrying about other people getting upset about it. You are entitled to your opinion the same as they are and cannot understand why someone would get upset about it. I could understand if it was a personal attack against someone but its not, it is a fair and honest opinion.
When I first look at a book I like to see/read reviews from both points of view as they help me make up my own mind if I want to go ahead and read a it. I will be honest and say that I do look out for particular friend's reviews to read first and yours is always one of the first on my list as I value your honest opinion and know that you won't be 'bashing' the author nor will you be 'bashing' other reviewers......It really is a shame that you have come to feel that you can't say why a book just wasn't for you :(((
I would be grateful if you could send me a message sweetie as I would very much like to know why the story didn't work for you and what your issues are xxx
First of all I have to say that I'm definitely a minority here, Dee. So, don't mind me. There are lots and lots of readers who love this book very much. I don't think that you will find many negative reviews. And as I said in my "review" I don't want to start a mayhem by writing a negative review. I think it's for the best as it is.
That's ok--will send you a message.
((Hugs)) my lovely.

Sorry you didn't like it Baba! And you had to pay for it on top:( That really stinks. Was it the writing, the story or the characters that you didn't like, if you don't mind sharing?

Wendy wrote: "Nicely said Baba. Yes, we're all different, and that is the beauty of books. :)"Thanks, Wen! I couldn't agree more. :-)
I'm really glad you didn't get the Fifty Vibes. I'm on that train with you. It was a very different book for me. I loved the book. It reminded me of the erotic writings of Elliott Mabeuse. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thank you for sharing yours. I support that whole heartedly and you are a good example of how not to bash an author. Great job! Smooches!

Thanks for accepting Leslie, I saw your review too. You know, if a book doesn't work for you, it doesn't work for you. Thankfully, there's like millions of other books out there to take a crack at. The next one might be your favorite! Lol
