This is another classic that I'm glad to have finally read even though I didn't particularly enjoy it. Now I won't have to feel like I'm missing out when people talk about this book. It just isn't a very pleasant story, and I didn't care about any of the characters - even the narrator. It does contain some elegant writing, but that isn't enough to make me like it. I'm not sorry that I read it, but I'm glad that I won't ever have to read it again.

Lisa Vegan Yes, I had to read it in high school/college??? And I didn't like anybody either. I tend to rate high so my 3 stars might be similar to your 2 stars. I've never had any desire to reread this although I do believe I still have my copy.

Luann I might have enjoyed it more reading it with a class and talking about the significance of things - although I might have disliked being required to read it, too. :) With half stars I might have gone with 2.5. I'm surprised that so many people count it as an all-time favorite book, though. It's short and I had to force myself to keep reading just to finish.

Edit: So maybe I do stand by the 2 stars! :)

Lisa Vegan I'm sure if I had to read it now, without a class to discuss interesting aspects, I wouldn't have given it more than a 2. I'm glad I'm not reading it now; there are so many much better books to read!!!

I agree! If it hadn't been so short (although it felt LONG), I never would have finished it. But it IS another classic I can cross off my list now.
