Bared to You by Sylvia Day is the ideal vacation and escape reading book. It has two very appealing characters: the beautiful young socialite Eva Tramell and the extraordinarily handsome and powerful Gideon Cross. These two have chemistry and their encounters are sizzling hot. The cast of characters is rounded out by some interesting secondary characters notably Eva’s boss Mark Garrity, and her roommate Cary Taylor.
While the attraction between Eva and Gideon seemed immediate, I liked that they took the time to get to know each other. At first, I found their relationship a little clinical. I did enjoy the banter between these two characters and the sexual tension was exquisite. And when they finally connect – well, that scene in the limo rocked Gideon’s world.
I think I fell in love with Gideon. Who wouldn’t? Gideon is perfect in every way: confident, buff, bold, and “inherently sexual.”
While the characters may seem perfect – young, rich, and attractive – they are also damaged. Both Eva and Gideon bring a part of their troubled past into the relationship. Perhaps this is why Eva had trouble communicating with Gideon. It seemed to me that there were quite a few angsty moments. Eva’s reaction was to shut down and run away from Gideon. I did find that aspect of the book a little wearisome.
If you’re looking for a book similar to that other trilogy, you may enjoy this book. I’m quite excited to hear that the next book Deeper In You is coming in October. I can’t wait!
Thank you to Edelweiss and Penguin Books for a review copy of this book.

“He was pure primal male, the embodiment of everything I coveted, fantasized about, and wished for.”

Well don't even look at my review, then. At least the new book cover is better, but again, it looks awfully familiar! I'm annoyed all over again..grr!

It didn't bother me that it looked familiar, hey, even THAT other book looked familiar. It was the constant have sex like bunnies then run away cos we have issues over and over again that kind of got to me. I get it, he's a sex god, but why keep running away from each other? And they never really tell you why he has his issues - I guess that's the next book.
I know. I guess I just have a problem with copy-cat authors. It was just too much like FSOG for me. She's a decent writer and I can't believe she got away with it! Even a press release on her behalf admits it! I'm sure Ms. James isn't too thrilled, either.

While I did see some similarities to FSOG, they weren't enough to make me not like this book - I mean, you can't really copyright Rich man with issues meets rich woman with issues and fall in angsty love - there's a lot of books like that out there. I did like Ms. Day's writing so much more. I have to pull together my thoughts on this one. I will most definitely read the next book, just out of curiousity. It was a good reading diversion, too. I see the ratings on this one were mixed.
Do you have a link for the press release? In this edition of the book, she does thank EL James.
Yes, let me copy and paste it in a email to you as it was sent to me that way from another GR friend. Also, fan-fic is just a formula and while I agree with you that copying a formula isn't necessarily bad, switching the exact same issues around and in addition, (even the first initials of Christian Grey vs. Gideon Cross and Ana to Eva) was just too much for me. Sorry, I know you liked it and I'll shut up!! xo
No worries - that's why I like this site - you get to compare notes on books that my RL friends may not have read. I just think that if you publish a fanfic, you've got to deal with the possible eventualities that may come with it.
Thank you for your understanding, AH and you're right, this site is AWESOME for these kinds of discussions!I guess this one just struck a cord with me. I do agree with you that some fanfic can be similar. Although when it's blatant, down to the heroine stumbling in front of the hero, that's when the red flag happened for me. I've already read that book. Give me something else, you know? I sent you an e-mail and thanks for being such a doll!! :)
hmmmm... my rating is actually a 3.5 to 4. We probably agree on this one more than you think! Darn, I want to disagree!!! LOL
Ha, ha, Michelle! At this point, I'm glad for you two that you don't think you wasted your money and you enjoyed it. ;)
I noticed she even changed her covers to look like the Fifty Books, come on! Liked the book, but be unique!
Authors really don't have too much control regarding book covers. The publisher changed the covers. This is a re-release of her originally self-pubbed book. It has been edited and the publishers realize that some people don't want to be seen reading a book with a naked or half naked person on the cover. Granted, with ebooks no one can see what you are reading. Personally, I did see a little connection with the other series at first, but these characters were very different to me. I'm curious to see how the next book progresses.

AH: I'm glad they changed this cover, I have to admit. The fact that it's so much like that other cover just makes me laugh, now. ;)
I’ve been waiting for your review on this one, AH! I agree with everything you said. I liked it too, but for me the ending was too abrupt. I even thought that maybe I’ve gotten not full version of the book.

I really tried to avoid comparing the two books. I saw similarities, but I also saw differences.
