I think this book is an improvement over the first book. The author has finally started taking things in a slightly original direction, and I found the plot less predictable.

One thing I can say now that I've read two of the books is that I really, really like the author's style of writing. She does not bog you down in unnecessary description; her writing is pure storyline. Few people can pull this off without sounding stilted. I think this is what accounts for the widespread appeal of the books and likewise, the Harry Potter series. People find the books gripping and fast reads because the plot is constantly flying forwards. While it's also enjoyable to read poetic prose from time to time, there's a lot to be said for fiction that moves full speed ahead.

Looking forward to the final book and see how the author wraps up the series!

Lisa Very good. I hadn't started the second one yet, because I wasn't too thrilled with the first one. You're also right about the "pure storyline", I hadn't thought of that way.
