bookshelves: did-not-finish, not-worthwhile

I can't understand the great reviews for this book. I could not finish it finding what I read to be too disturbing. The physical abuse that Walsh (a pseudonym) received from his father and then being sexually abused by his uncle was too much to bear. Walsh taught himself to read and write but there's problems with the writing which wasn't addressed. Even before the book begins, under Acknowledgements, there's spelling and punctuation errors. Walsh doesn't really reveal much about Gypsy life. It's more of a diatribe of his miserable childhood.

Jennifer I just read this one too Gail. Yeah the violence was bad, and the sexual abuse grossed me out, but I am facinated with other "cultures." I like that gypsy show on TV too though...very trashy, yet they are so bizzare, I watch it.
