This book dicusses the benefits of outlining your novel, as opposed to "pantsing" it--the term the author gives to just winging it, sitting down and writing your novel without any preparation. It talks you through the steps of developing your characters, your setting, using breaks in your novel, etc. Overall, it was pretty good with some useful advise and good bullet points that you could use as a template almost.
