Something Beautiful is told through the eyes of a young girl who lives in an impoverished neighborhood where nothing seems beautiful. She starts to ask her friends, neighbors, and family what they think is beautiful and she begins to see the beauty in her life. The young girls identifies ordinary objects as her something beautiful, and her mother says that her daughter is her something beautiful. The book shows the girl's view of her life and neighborhood transitioning from something ugly to something beautiful, and she embraces her life as such.
