really liked it
bookshelves: book-club

Read this Mar/Apr 2012 for a book club. Enjoyed it, although there were a few jarring moments, such as the clearly intelligent private detective being a bit thick, and the sudden change of mind about the trustworthiness of Inspector Bucket. Considering I usually am not keen on authors picking up other people's worlds as they never quite do it justice (like death at pemberley), this was quite good. I must mention though that I can't bear Charles dickens as he was ruined for me by my English teacher at school, this book has made me want to read Bleak House. Good description of the horrors for most in Victorian times. Good pace, but a few too many characters for me to keep track of clearly at all times.
