"The Red Tent" was a very moving, emotional and heartfelt story beginning with the relationships of women, thus the title, ways in which they relate to each other and the welcoming of their daughters into womanhood. It delves deeper into the story of the family of Jacob, his four wives, Leah, Rachel, Bilhah and Zilpah, their children, but, most of all, Leah's and Jacob's only daughter, Dinah.
Mrs. Diamant chronicles Dinah's life and depicts and describes a story so real and inviting, the reader can almost imagine themselves there. I personally learned a lot from Dinah, about heartbreak, betrayal and love, about how when you least expect it to come into your life, it shows up and shows out. I even found myself rooting for Benia and hoping that, when love finds me, it will do exactly what it did for Dinah - weave all the hurts and disappointments from my past into something stable and beautiful.
I give it 4 stars.
