This story takes place in the 1950's with flash backs to the 1940's on an island in Pudget Sound. The murder trial of a local Japanese-American fisherman brings out stories of the island just before WWII and the culture of the strawberry farmers and salmon fishermen. It is told mostly from the point of view of the local newspaperman.
