did not like it

I tried twice to get into this book--I thought it would make a nice juxtaposition with "Blue Highways" and I really liked Bryson's "A Walk in the woods." But the jokes in this book seemed trite and tired (sterotypical family vacations, fat ill-dressed and behaved tourists, etc) and the attempts at humor had no underlying affection, and so came across to me as merely mean-spirited. Give it a miss.
