About a family--mother, father, two sisters--who come from Korea to America and then go back to Korea when the father is dying of cancer. At first I enjoyed the family dynamics, the Korean culture and expectations, the bits of folklore. But then it became an unrelenting and depressing slide into the father's death, with little of insight or change or redemption to relieve the sadness. Writing is often very nice and some of the characters are vivid, but. . . .
