it was amazing
Read from April 08 to 30, 2012

I have recieved a few recs over the years to read Coben, I have read many positive reviews, but nothing of his has ever jumped out and enticed me from back covers/flaps. I read a short story of his in Death Do Us Part and it was I figured the time had come to check him out. I tried to start this twice, and while it didn't start bad I just didn't get excited about it and moved on to other books on my to read list....I started this last night and hated to put it down...about 5 and a half to 6 hours to finnish....make sure to set it aside in one day if you can this book is great!

The character development is very well done, and since this is the first book in a series I assume much of what transpires sets the foundation for further books in the Bolitar (If I spelled it right) series. A sports agent with a conscience and who actually cares about the well being of his clients....and he is a lawyer to boot! Bolitar is a very good protaginist and we meet his partner Win, his clients Christian and Ricky, his possible love interest, and a few good friends.....we also meet some well crafted low lifes, mobsters, petty criminals and a slew of disgusting individuals. I really felt like I was getting to know all of them, and genuinely cared about what was happening to them. I always figure if an actor/actress can make you love or hate them they have played their part very well. Coben made me like and hate his characters, and feel proud of their ethics and disgust at their betrayals. Very well done.

The plot (Because I am not very bright) took me a couple of chapters to sort out (flip back a page and say, OH I get it), but was very well crafted. He starts with a simple murder or disappearance, and methodically adds more and more twists...rape, blackmail, seriel killers, estranged families, adultery, open marrigaes, mobsters, this has something for everyone. There are layers upon layers of duplicity and a multi facteted mystery that ensues. I think at one point I guessed nearly ever character was involved (well on some levels many of them are) or the key bad probably wasn't untill about 50 pages or so left that I strted to see the shift towards who......

Plenty of action, well written and believable dialouge, clever and well placed one liners from a wise guy main character, the humor was well placed and made Bolitar even more real and likeable to me.

Great book, if you have not read it you must....if you have not read Coben, I will join the throngs before me who say hurry up. If the remainder of this series, or his other series or his several stand alone novels are on par with this he will quickly join my favorite authors list....I will wait for 1 more before I classify him there. This was very good!
