This is a lovely little sleeper of a story that grew on me as I thought about it. A young girl takes a bus to find the mother that walked out on her 4 years before in the middle of a sentence. It is a familiar plot but Baskin handles it skillfully and inserts encounters with a series of people along the way who give Natalie much to think about as her journey continues. Baskin does an exceptionally nice job of showing us the relationship between Natalie and her self-absorbed boyfriend and the choices she makes because of him, from birth control to abandoning her best friend. The glimpses of the people she meets on her trip are tantalizing and the ending is realistic but satisfying.

Jennifer I just heard her at an author reading in NYC and loved what she read aloud. I'm going to put this one on my short list of to-reads!
