it was amazing
bookshelves: own, audio
Read in April, 2011

If I handed the author a list of my favorite things so she could write a story just for me, this would be it. Southern atmosphere, strong female characters (several are characters in every sense of the word), an intelligent child who likes to read and whose escape into books allows her to survive in a dysfunctional family, and prospects for a rescue and better life for the child -- all combined to make this a great story. I especially recommend the audio, not just because the voices were perfect, but because there I needed both hands for the Kleenex.
