I was surprised by how likable I found Palahniuk in his nonfiction incarnation, as I've always struggled with what I perceive to be the rather pronounced mean streak that runs throughout his fiction. His praise for the writers he adores is particularly endearing. I didn't read every story in this collection, but I read enough to appreciate his craftsmanship and singular voice in a journalistic/personal essay vein. The best of these pieces (from the ones I read) are compulsively readable. This is a fun, engaging read, even if, like me, you're not a huge fan.
