Seedfolks is the story of the transformation that takes place within a vacant city lot to bring together a whole community through the building of a garden. The desire of one little girl, Kim, to plant her bean seeds captures the attention of some unlikely characters throughout the novel. A hardened working-class Italian, a pessimistic man, the young, the old, the happy and the sad all come to this vacant little lot to grow a garden. Writing in the voices of each of his characters, Paul Fleishchman writes not only about the growth of a garden, but the growth of each character as an individual and gradually as a whole community.
