This is where it all began. I originally read this as monthly issues, and I bought #1 solely on the basis of Busiek's track record. It seemed ok, but fairly generic, until I got to the final page, which completely blew me away. It will help if you're familiar with some of the more obscure characters from Marvel continuity in order to appreciate it, but I don't think that's essential.

There are some good action scenes in here, particularly the team-up with Spider-Man. It also sets up the long term theme of redemption.
