I'm always hesistant when someone tells me that an author is "a modern day Vonnegut" because Vonnegut is the modern day Vonnegut. Give the man a little more time in the ground before you try to replace him. *geesh!* I probably would have never picked this up, it being a) a book for adult people and b) a book with the author's name larger on the cover than the title of the book (a big pet peeve for me that is only surpased by terrifyingly big "James Patterson" style pictures on the back of books) My sister is the math genius. I am the book nerd. When she told me she not only was she reading on a regular basis now, but that Chrispher Moore's books were the things that started that trend, I had to see what the hype was about. This book made me miss my bus stop twice during the four mornings I read it. 50% mass transit oblivion is a really good percentange! I didn't find myself laughing audibaly very often, but I did have a big dumb grin on throughout most of the text. Despite the somewhat predictable ending and utterly annoying last line (which I felt was disjointed from the entire point of the story), I truly enjoyed this book. Vonnegut he is not, but Moore is someone I'm going to keep my eye on.
